For diabetics, in addition to a high quality multi-vitamin, nutritional blood analysis, and careful blood sugar monitoring ask your doctor about: 1. GTF Chromium (100 mcg (micrograms) up two to four times per day) 2. Vanadium (Vanadyl Sulfate, 5 mg/day) 3. Bovine Colostrum (2 tablespoons or more/day) from a clean source like New Zealand: a superfood clinically shown to help reverse a wide variety of diseases and conditions including all types of diabetes. 4. Alpha Lipoic Acid (500+ mg/day) or R-Lipoic Acid (aka "Alpha Lipoic Acid R-Fraction") 5. Magnesium (700+ mg/day in the form of sulfate (Epsom Salt, the least expensive and provides sulfer to aid in detoxification) or other forms of magnesium; avoid magnesium oxide which is oxidized, thus free radical-inducing. 6. Calcium: I take Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite (MCHA / MCHC), the best absorbed form of which I know. From Dr. Edward Group (GlobalHealingCenter.com), who I highly respect, I've heard orotate mineral forms are best absorbed as found by the late Dr. Hans Nieper, though I haven't found supporting research. In an interview on The Power Hour Radio Show I've heard Dr. Group say MCHA is well-absorbed, too. MCHA can increase bone density and mass up to 30% per year, a claim made by the originator, Ethical Nutrients, maker of Bone Builder, and authorized in 1996 by the FTC after a long legal battle (http://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/documents/cases/1996/10/d9267idc.pdf). No pharmaceutical drug nor any other form of calcium can come close. Calcium citrate is the only other form of which I know that can improve bone density and mass, but only up to 3% per year. Other forms, including calcium carbonate (chalk) so commonly sold, prevent bone loss by keeping calcium levels up in the blood, but don't rebuild bone. The bisphosphonate class of pharmaceutical drugs, including the popular Fosamax and Boniva, cause brittle bones and osteonecrosis (dead bone) of the jaw that can result in death (i.e. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5583203). The MCHA I take is Now Foods' Bone Strength, 240 capsules (the best value of which I know is at https://www.iherb.com/pr/Now-Foods-Bone-Strength-240-Capsules/437) because it's a good deal, the cow bone from which the MCHA is derived is from New Zealand where the environment is cleaner and the cows are raised more humanely; plus it includes many other nutrients which help bone health and acts as a somewhat comprehensive multi-mineral. About 20 years ago I had loose teeth that became firm soon after starting to take MCHA. When I ran out, teeth became loose again so I make sure to never run out. My X-rays from a little over a year ago show good bone density around and in the teeth. A friend who broke her femur was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, began taking three capsules per day, and a year later amazed her doctor when she was then diagnosed with mild osteopenia (mild thinning of bones). Prosthetics and [dental] implants are coated with MCHA to speed mending and integration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxylapatite). Because calcium and magnesium compete for absorption, they should be taken separately, at least a few hours apart. 7. Vitamin D3 (2,000 to 5,000 IU/day or more, depending on nutritional blood analysis) 8. EFAs (essential fatty acids) preferably from organic hempseed oil, 2+ tablespoons/day To help fat/EFA (essential fatty acid), emulsification, absorption, and metabolism see the FAT/EFA Absorption Blog: http://theliberationstation.com/fatefa-absorption-blog 9. Gymnema Sylvestre 10. Bitter Melon 11. Cinnamon 12. American Ginseng or Red Ginseng (for Type 2 Diabetes) 13. Garlic (for cinnamon and garlic essential oils that are medicinal- (AKA therapeutic- AKA food-) grade that are more potent than the dry herb. For the best quality, get organic. Don't use aromatherapeutic-grade for any purpose as they're extracted using petrochemical solvents like hexane of which a residue remains in the oils. The best values for organic essential oils of which I know are at SwansonVitamins.com. 14. Berberine 15. Fenugreek 16. Moringa 17. Inosotol (added to blog Nov. 10, 2021) 18. Ginger root (added to blog Dec. 12, 2021)
